30% thinning in 0.3acre area of woodland adjoining the house and within the property boundary. Comprising young trees in a high stocking density. Approximately 30-40 trees will be felled. The woodland is on a south facing slope which falls down to the house and garden and is bordered by a footpath on the north side. The species to be felled will be ash, sycamore and spruce as well as coppiced wych elm. All trees are below 300mm DBH. The woodland has not been managed for over 25 years and there are some diseased ash within it. If you look at '2025 10 17 The Cottage Milldale Satellite View' you can see how the tree density is higher in the woodland on this property compared to the adjoining woodland on the neighbouring property, to the west, indicating the lack of recent management. The overarching aim of the tree felling is to release the favoured trees to encourage healthy canopy growth and aid with the ongoing monitoring and management of these trees, which, due to their proximity to the house could pose a falling risk in time. When selecting trees to fell Andrew will focus on diseased ash, overshadowed sycamore and trees at risk of falling onto the house or overshadowing the garden and try to retain healthier ash trees and trees of highest ecological value. Andrew is happy to work with the Tree Officer to select the trees to be felled or mark the trees to be felled prior to a site visit by the Tree Officer. Trees will be felled by Andrew, a trained professional with assistance from a banks person to monitor the use of the adjoining footpath and ensure user safety. The felled trees will be processed and used as firewood for heating the house. A full RAMS can be provided upon request.
